Science says - 'Travel is the best medicine!'
Every year millions of Australians leave their home comforts behind to travel the world. Whether it's through the lush rainforests of South America, the powdered snow fields of Canada or simply our own beautiful sunny shores at home, travel in all its forms is an experience that alters not just your perspective on life, but also your mental and physical health too.
These days, unwinding on a sun-drenched beach while sipping pina-coladas is just as warranted as a day spent in a seated yoga pose sipping fresh coconut juice. And why not? Holidays offer the perfect opportunity for people to concentrate purely on their wellbeing, whatever your personal definition of wellbeing happens to be.

And if you've been trying to justify your urge to escape, the great news is that science is on your side because holidays offer benefits for both your mental and physical health.
The Global Commission on Aging and Transamerica Center for Retirement Studies, in partnership with the U.S. Travel Association, released research that supports what we have always known – travel is the best medicine. In the report, it showed that after only a day or two, 89% of respondents saw significant drops in stress and because travel challenges the brain with new and different experiences and environments, it also promotes brain health.
But it can also have significant, positive impacts on your physical health. According to research conducted by scientists from the Icahn School of Medicine, University of California and Harvard found that just six days away triggers genetic changes which dampens stress, boosts the immune system and s levels of proteins linked to dementia and depression.
